If you watched season two of Daredevil on Netflix (if you haven’t, just what are you waiting for?), then you know that the best part of it was the introduction of Frank Castle, AKA The Punisher. Played by Jon Bernthal, The Punisher was a gritty and violent antithesis to Charlie Cox’s moral and conflicted Matt Murdock/Daredevil. The end of the season left us wanting more of Frank as he learned just who it was that was behind the violent murder of his family. We won’t have to wait long, as Netflix has just dropped the official trailer for The Punisher solo series.
***WARNING, AS IS FITTING FOR THE CHARACTER, THE TRAILER IS VERY NSFW***
While this isn’t the first time that The Punisher has been brought to the big (or small) screen— Dolph Lundgren played him in 1989, followed by Thomas Jane in 2004, and then by Ray Stevenson in 2008 — Bernthal’s portrayal has so far been my favorite one. As if I weren’t already pretty hyped up, the trailer’s use of Metallica’s “One”was simply perfect. Frank is shown acoustically playing it at the beginning and leading into James Hetfield’s crunching power riffs as Frank preps and the violence ratchets up and Lars Ulrich’s staccato double bass drums to effectively punctuate the action
Netflix still hasn’t said when the show will premiere, but we do know that it will be sometime in what’s left of 2017. I, for one, plan on power binging it when it does drop.
