Since the first trailer for the upcoming Injustice 2 back in January, fans have been clamoring for information on who will be joining the battle between the 2 factions of super-powered icons from the DC Universe.
It seems that we’re now getting more information, as a new trailer for the game by NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. was released today, and we’re now seeing some new additions to the roster of characters who’ll be joining the fray. We’re of course getting a look at Bane and Gorilla Grodd, but we’re also seeing footage of the newly-confirmed Scarecrow and Captain Cold.
It looks like there have been a few updates in how these characters are presented as well. While the visage of Gorilla Grodd hasn’t changed much from the comics, we are seeing more of a DC’s Legends of Tomorrow look to Captain Cold (which modernizes the character a bit), as well as a more wraith-like appearance for Scarecrow. NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. have also added some interesting descriptions for Scarecrow and Captain Cold on the official Injustice 2 website, giving new fans a little insight into what motivates these well-known nefarious ne’er-do’wells.
- Scarecrow: “Scarecrow plays on the fears of the unknown to inflict terror on his victims. An anarchist obsessed with using chemistry and psychology to spread and study fear. He joins the Society in order to sow panic on a global scale.”
- Captain Cold: “Sworn to ending all crime, the Regime hunted down and brutally executed ever member of the Rogues, including Captain Cold’s sister. Using his skills as a thief and his iconic Cold Gun, Cold now seeks his vengeance. He’ll gladly use the Society to achieve it.”
The introduction of these characters, and the continuation of the story also brings up more questions of what we would do, were we faced with the age-old questions: Is it better to be feared or loved? Does absolute power corrupt absolutely, or can that corruption be fought against? The beauty of a series like Injustice, is that it blurs the line between good and evil. Whereas these characters may be seen as villains, their motives draw into question whose side they are truly on. In a world where morality is such a grey area, “It’s Good to Be Bad”.
With 11 more characters said to be waiting in the wings for announcement, gamers can only hope that the roster will just keep getting better. Injustice 2 is slated for release for PS4 and Xbox One on May 16th in North America, and on May 19th in Europe.
