It was at last year’s San Diego Comic Con Executive Producer Joaquim Dos Santos announced that season 2 of Voltron: Legendary Defender, a Netflix exclusive, will be released in late 2016. Due to unknown reasons, season 2 was never released in 2016 but 2017 is a brand new year!
After waiting anxiously for any kind of tweet or Facebook post, Voltron: Legendary Defender season 2 is set for release on January 20th 2017 on Netflix!!
Voltron: Legendary Defender is about a universe plagued by the evil Galra Empire. The only known protector who was strong enough to fight against Galra was Voltron. At the height of the war between Voltron and Galra, a planet called Altea was destroyed. In order to protect Voltron from falling into the evil hands of Galran Emperor Zarkon, King Alfor separated Voltron into the 5 lions that make it, sealed the souls of the lions to his daughter Allura’s life force, and scattered them across the universe until the new generation of pilots or Paladins of Voltron appeared. Fast forward a thousand years or so, Emperor Zarkon and his evil empire are in the Earth’s solar system looking for Voltron. A group of young pilots discover the Blue Lion and they get swept up in the thousand year war, with Princess Allura and Voltron.
Season 1 of Voltron: Legendary Defender was released on June 10, 2016 with 11 episodes, each roughly 23 minutes minus the pilot episode which was almost 70 mins. I HIGHLY recommend a binge session if you haven’t already seen it!
The pilot episode is what really hooked me in because of how beautiful the storytelling was. Yes, it was long but it was worth each and every minute. It set the tone and expectation for the series, and it did NOT disappoint! I became invested in everyone’s life and I felt nostalgic because of the small hints of the previous Voltron I remembered watching as a kid. The animation style is crisp and the action never stops; each episode will leave you wanting more. You will be at the end of your seat by the end and will be hungry for season 2. Luckily for you, the wait will be over in less than 2 weeks.
