PSX 2016 blew fans away with some amazing reveals!

Unless you live under a rock & stayed off of social media for the last 3 days, you may know that there were some big gaming announcement over the weekend.

The PlayStation Experience (PSX) 2016 took place at the Anaheim Convention Center in Southern California, on December 3rd & 4th, and the reveals just kept on coming. A lot of great trailers premiered, and there were several announcements made which will get fans very hyped for the games set to release in 2017.

Let’s start with what could arguably be called the biggest reveal of the weekend: The Last of Us: Part 2. A trailer for this game was shown off by the team at Naughty Dog, and it drew uproarious applause.

In the simple trailer, we see a quiet forest scene, overlayed with that wonderfully ominous music that Naughty Dog made us fall in love with in the first installment of the franchise. Following that, a young woman (revealed to be a more mature Ellie) sits on the edge of a bed, playing a blues song on a guitar while singing along. What follows (after a brief dramatic moment), is a foreboding conversation between Ellie & Joel, which seems to set the tone for what could be another blockbuster release from Naughty Dog.

This DLC will star Chloe Frazer & Nadine (from A Thief’s End), and has been described by Naughty Dog as a “new story chapter”. During the live stream of the DLC’s trailer (before the title was announced), gamers were left in suspense as to who it was under the face covering. Some thought it might’ve been Lara Croft, while others  thought that the game was a completely new IP. As soon as Chloe Frazer’s face was revealed, however, fans knew that they were in for something amazing.

The trailer for this game showed off some of its cinematic bits, and some frenetic moments of a fight between the teams of Mega Man & Ryu vs. Iron Man & Captain Marvel. This installment looks like it will truly take advantage of the PS4 Pro’s updated graphics abilities, and push the limits of frame rate to their utmost.

Since we’re on the subject of fighting games… We would be remiss if we didn’t mention the other announcement from Capcom. The developer revealed over the weekend that Street Fighter V would be getting 6 additional fighters in a second season of updates to the game, one of which is the legendary Akuma. In his reveal trailer, a longer-haired and somewhat more feral-looking Akuma can be seen demonstrating some impressive juggle combos. The trailer finished off with a look at the updated “Raging Demon” super combo, for which players have come to love using Akuma in the Street Fighter series.
As for the other fighters? The only thing we know for sure, is that they will be “brand new to the Street Fighter universe”, according to the game’s director, Takayuki Nakayama. We’ll be keeping an eye on this one…

Rounding out our top 5 picks of the best from PSX this year is the newest game (which is available now & free to play) from No More Heroes developer Grasshopper Manufacture, Let it Die.

In the wonderfully campy launch trailer, the character of “Uncle Death” (a skateboarding, Grim Reaper-esque character with a Hispanic accent), challenges the player to “make it to the top of the Tower of Barbs”.

In a statement, executive producer Kazuki Morishita said about the game, “Let It Die remains a crazy survival action game. The world we are creating will push the envelope for asynchronous, free-to-play. The trademark Grasshopper visual and narrative flair remains a signature for the title.”
