It was announced today, by Lucasfilm, that none other than actor, writer, and Grammy-nominated artist Donald Glover has been cast to play the part of Lando Calrissian – everyone’s favorite Cloud City dwelling charmer – in the yet-untitled Han Solo Star Wars film. Glover will appear alongside Alden Ehrenreich, who will portray a young Han Solo.
It’s been said that the upcoming film, with directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller at the helm, will show Lando as a young scoundrel, working his way through the galaxy’s seedy underbelly; a part of his life that is years before the events of The Empire Strikes Back.
Directors Lord & Miller are quoted as saying, “We’re so lucky to have an artist as talented as Donald join us. These are big shoes to fill, and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations. Also, we’d like to publicly apologize to Donald for ruining Comic-Con for him forever.”
Best known for the creation & starring role in the critically-acclaimed series Atlanta, and for starring in the hit comedy show Community, Glover was also nominated for a Grammy award (performing under the stage name “Childish Gambino”) in 2015, for his album, ‘Because the Internet’. He also appeared in the Oscar-nominated film The Martian, and will also have a role in the highly anticipated Spider Man: Homecoming.
The untitled Han Solo movie is set for release in 2018.
