Gotham S3:E2 Recap

Family isn’t always blood.

Mad City: Burn The Witch

This Is Your Plan?

Remember last episode when I hoped that Bruce and Alfred had some sort of plan as they basically went full Tony Stark and invited the Court of Owls to come for them? Yeah, there was no plan. These idiots figured that the Owls would come but didn’t think past a list of demands. I cannot with these two. This was some next level stupidity and I’m so irritated I don’t even care about the fact that The Cure!Bruce showed up at Wayne Manor all, ‘Do I belong to you?’

Either Love Me Or Leave Me Alone

Through a series of unfortunate events, Fish escapes with Hugo in tow and immediately runs into the waiting Oswald. These three have such a effed up, disturbing dynamic that I personally find fascinating. They’re intricately tied together, as made explicitly clear in this episode, because each of them created the other. Fish flat out tells Oswald she couldn’t kill him because in the end, he’s hers: her child in every way that counts and she, in her own way, loves him. The same goes for Hugo and Fish. They’re a family, the most dysfunctional family outside of the Lannisters on television, but a family nonetheless. Which is why, despite everything, Oswald lets them go.

I don’t see how that won’t backfire.

All Grown Up

The biggest reveal of the night isn’t Lee coming back, or Jim’s admirers growing in leaps and bounds, but Ivy becoming Poison Ivy. After her run in with Fish’s henchmen Marv (he of the rapid aging hands) she washes ashore, confused and filthy and five years older. That’s right – Ivy is now a grown woman, a gorgeous one, who can hear plants speaking to her. I was initially extremely leery of this change, but I have to admit, the show handles it well. The biggest reason for that is that it’s clear that Ivy, though she’s in the body of an 18 year old, still has the mind of a 13 year old and that’s going to inform her decision making processes going forward. The questions are: will the show stay on point with this going forward and continue to handle it well?

Only time will tell.

Booking Notes

  • Bronte named Clone!Bruce Robert Smith and I found it hilarious so here we are.
  • The GCPD needs help you guys. They are not ready for metas, especially organized ones.
  • Jim is becoming increasingly ruthless with each season. They’re going to need to pull back some of his crazy within the next few years or he’s going to become the Punisher.
