Movie Brew: ‘The Batman’ Trailer
During the DC FanDome event on August 22nd, Director Matt Reeves held a panel to discuss his upcoming film The Batman starring Robert Pattinson in the titular role.
Throughout the panel, Reeves was describing his vision for the film. This is a Batman story set in the second year of his crusade, where he will have to use his detective skills to solve a series of grizzly murders. Along the journey, Bruce will meet Selena Kyle, Oswald Cobblepot, The Riddler and Commissioner James Gordon.
Check out the first trailer for The Batman:
As you can see, this is a new take on the character and we here at PCU are very excited for it! Not only are fans getting a Batman film that is more grounded, we are getting a film in which Batman has to actually use his detective skills against a version of the Riddler that we haven’t seen yet in live action: one who is Bruce’s equal intellectually. Already this film is addressing one of our biggest complaints about all the previous films: Batman has one of the best rogues galleries in comics…use them.
The fact that this isn’t an origin story, so we don’t have to watch Thomas and Martha be murdered again, is awesome but that we can clearly see the transition from Pattinson’s Batman to Affleck’s makes this deeply intriguing. That both Reeves and Pattinson clearly have so much love and respect for the character, and the previous version, that they want to make sure this is done right is the cherry on top.
