Review Brew: Bad Boys for Life Trailer

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are Bad Boys … one last time.

Bad Boys for Life

Seventeen years after we last saw Mike Lowery (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) in Bad Boys II, they have reunited in Bad Boys for Life.

According to IMDB, the plot is as follows, “Marcus Burnett is now a police inspector and Mike Lowery is in a midlife crisis. They unite again when an Albanian mercenary, whose brother they killed, promises them an important bonus.” This thin synopsis will keep us guessing: what is actual the plot of this movie?

Michael Bay, who directed the first two installments, opted out of directing this third installment due to delays with the script. Directors Adil El Arbi, Bilall Fallah take over this film written by  Joe Carnahan and Chris Bremner.

While the trailer is action-filled this appears to be fan service. Several elements from Bad Boys and Bad Boys II are recycled here such as Lowery’s open-armed shooting stance and Burnett’s aversion of conflict is ripped straight from the earlier movies.

There are exciting chase scenes and predictable jokes, so I cannot lie I’ll be in the theaters opening weekend waiting for the tracking shot of Smith and Martin standing up to rejoin the fight  … one last time.

The film will release in the US on January 17, 2020.
