There are a lot of video game developers out there who really know how to tease new stuff, and in my opinion, Ubisoft is one of the best. They have a real knack for giving just enough content in a teaser to get their fans’ attention, and build hype.
That skill really comes into play with the recent teaser that the company released to whet the appetites of gamers for the Order of the Ancients trailer, which is due to be released soon for Assassins Creed Origins.
Based on what we can deduce here, the four masked characters featured in this trailer most likely belong to (or entirely make up) The Order of the Ancients. This group (also known as the Egyptian Rite of the Templars), according to AC lore, is a precursor to the more modern Templar Order, and they operated throughout the Egyptian empire since the Ptolemaic dynasty. They were said to be the group responsible for installing Cleopatra onto the throne, thus becoming the most well-known queen of Egypt. It is then said that one of the first Assassins infiltrated her palace, and caused her death via the bite of an asp. The name of this group also gives further credence to the theory that the Templars began as an offshoot of Those Who Came Before / The Isu / The First Civilization / The Precursors.
If we are to assume that these figures are indeed The Order of the Ancients, it’s a good bet that some of the things they talk about in this teaser actually give us more of the story of Origins. When “his last smile” is mentioned, that could allude to this cabal being responsible for a life-changing moment for an important character. My guess is that they’re referring to the game’s protagonist; the Medjay known as Bayek. If this is indeed the case, we may see a confrontation between Bayek and The Order of the Ancients…but could we see Bayek betraying Cleopatra (or vice versa), with whom he seems to ally himself in some of the previous trailers?
There is still some time to go before gamers will be able to get their hands on Assassins Creed Origins, but this trailer might very well give us some more information regarding the parts of the game’s story about which fans are still in the dark. Hopefully, we’ll get more of a look at the game’s expansive landscape, maybe some more story gameplay, and some idea of how the two now-iconic factions got their start in humanity.
The new gameplay trailer will debut on September 14th, 2017. Assassins Creed Origins releases on October 27, 2017 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
