I’d Like To Come Home Now

There’s a new Spider-Man: Homecoming trailer out and Ron is ready for it to be July now.

The latest Spider-Man: Homecoming trailer just hit the internet, giving us some bits from previous trailers mixed in with some new material. Everything I’ve seen shows them really getting how lonely Pete is, which was always one of the hallmarks of who Peter Parker / Spider-Man really is. It has a Stan Lee / Gerry Conway feel to it, and that makes MY spider sense tingle.

That may or may not be a metaphor.

They also show a little more of Spidey taking on street level crime, and the patented Spider-Man chatter that goes along with it. The biggest takeaway for me, however, is the involvement of Tony Stark in the film as an active mentor to Peter, with Pete reporting back to Stark as to his activities (and enjoying a well-deserved churro). Going hand-in-hand with that, is Peter’s suit, which seems to be much more:

Iron Spider

and less:Ditko Spider-Man

The suit even has it’s own version of F.R.I.D.A.Y. as well as hints of a lot of extra bells and whistles Pete can’t access yet. I am on the fence with regards to how I feel about some of this as it could easily turn into Inspector Gadget level inanity (“Go Go Spidey PARACHUTE!”), but I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt…for now (calling the blocked tech program the “Training Wheels Protocol” made me actually chortle out loud).

At this point I am actually hoping not to get any more new footage in the next trailer, but I already know that hope is in vain. On the off chance the Powers That Be at Marvel & Sony are reading this humble response piece please note:

YOU ARE ALREADY GETTING OUR MONEY. STOP SHOWING US NEW STUFF. SAVE IT FOR THE MOVIE (OR AT LEAST A MOVIE ONLY PREVIEW NOT IMMEDIATELY POSTED TO THE INTERNET).

You’ve got us hooked. Reel us (and our wallets) in and enjoy the fruits of your labor.
