Josh Brolin cast as Cable in Deadpool 2

After months of speculation and many possible contenders, a mainstay of Deadpool comics is coming to the silver screen. In an exclusive from The Hollywood Reporter yesterday morning, actor Josh Brolin has been tapped to play mutant hero Cable in Deadpool 2.

If you didn’t know, Cable is a time-traveling mutant who was paired with the wise-cracking Deadpool in the comics. In the Marvel comics, he was transported as an infant to the future, where he grew into a warrior, before returning to the present. He’s always been the “straight man” counterpoint to Deadpool’s irreverence and is a fan favorite. The pairing was so popular in the books that they got their own series, Cable & Deadpool from 2004 to 2008. His appearance was teased in the end credits stinger to Deadpool, and in the Deadpool 2 teaser that was shown ahead of “Logan” in theaters, a message written on a phone booth that read, “Nathan Summers cumming [yes, that’s the correct spelling] soon!”

Brolin’s casting comes as a surprise as he has already been cast as the ultimate big bad guy Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. Reports point to the fact that Fox has apparently been contracted the actor for four movies. Deadpool 2 is currently in pre-production and is set for release sometime in 2018, which is the same time frame as when Brolin will also take center stage as Thanos in “Avengers: Infinity War”. We’ll see then if having a common star will cause (more) issues between the two rival studios.

Was Josh Brolin the best choice for this role or would you have chosen somebody else? Let us know in the comments below!

"Man. Myth. Legend. Ladies Man." There are many words that can be used to describe Manny...unfortunately, none of those apply. "DJ, Cat Lover, Man-Child, Wookie" will have to do.
