Hopped up on that good-good, since it’ll put them so far out of their heads they won’t be susceptible to psychic attacks, Cave, Chloe, Wild Dog and the Muldroogs head off to rescue the king. It’s every bit as badass as you’d expect from this crew: hilarious, action packed and genuinely dangerous. It dovetails wonderfully with Edward’s backstory as we find out what the hell happened that led him down the path of crazy and creepy that he’s currently on. All seems to be going well….until it really, really isn’t.

Once again Gerard Way and Jon Rivera knock this series out of the park, giving us fantastic characterization, smart dialogue, pathos and tragedy and heartbreaking love (even in the midst of battle) that make you fully invest in these people. You want Cave and his family and friends to come out the other side of this mess that they’re embroiled in. You cheer for their victories, laugh with (and sometimes at) them and are invested in their safety.

Michael Avon Oeming, Nick Filardi and Clem Robins are so utterly, breathtakingly good at what they do, it’s easy to take it for granted. However the subtle things are what make this book stand out: the shift in the art before and after everyone drinks the bug juice, is brilliant and smart. From that point on everything told from their perspective is just slightly different than from anyone else’s. It’s that kind of attention to detail that makes this book so outstanding.

Point blank this was a fantastic read. Five out of Five eyes.
