First Initial & Last Name: Jessica C.
Where are you from originally, or where do you reside currently? Baltimore, MD
How long have you been cosplaying? 4 years
What characters have you cosplayed? Xena Warrior Princess, Maleficent, Alex Vause, Black Widow, Poison Ivy, Pin-up Snow White, Bellatrix Lestrange, Luna the dark faerie.
What inspired you to start cosplaying? My first time cosplaying was as Xena at a Xena convention. I absolutely love the show and the character. After cosplaying Xena the first time, I was hooked.
What do you do when you are not cosplaying? I act, model, DJ, and am a mom.
What costumes have provided the biggest challenge and rewards so far and why? Xena is by far my favorite cosplay. She is my favorite character and I love the way people interact with me when I’m dressed like her. A lot of people get very emotional when they see “Xena” walking around. The cosplay that gave/gives me the biggest challenge is Maleficent. That gown was a HUGE pain to make and it takes around 3 hours to put on the full costume on because of the contacts and the cheek prosthetics.
What is the best advice you would give someone new to cosplaying? Just have fun with it. Some people take it way too seriously and ruin the fun for themselves and others. Cosplay whatever you want and ignore anyone that tries to tell you that you can’t.
What is one thing the cosplaying community can do better when it comes to dealing with each other? I know there can be a lot of snarkiness and sabotage between cosplayers and with photographers. The biggest thing I can say about it is that everyone just needs to be nicer to each other. Stop the body shaming, and if you don’t like somebody, instead of stalking them and making hate memes about them, just leave them alone and stay away from them.
