As we suspected, Tyrell was with Elliot when he pulled off the biggest hack in history. Of course Tyrell is throwing shade on the whole enterprise, or at least Elliot’s motivations, yet still can’t see that his motivations aren’t exactly sunshine and rainbow based. Only Mr Robot knows what happens from there, because Elliot doesn’t remember. He’s blocked everything that’s happened since he hit ‘send’ on the computer, and despite how hard he tries he can’t unlock the part of his brain that would upload the files he needs.
The season premiere answers a few question regarding last year’s insane finale, while opening up a whole new can of worms as we check in with the crews of fSociety and Evil Corp. We find out a little bit more regarding the Alderson family and their highly dysfunctional relationships, and some new players are introduced.
The fallout of the hack continues to reverberate, not only in the United States but around the world, as the people rise up and fSociety continues to grow in popularity and participants. Evil Corp talked a big game at the end of last season (and still have a good amount of control of the world’s economy), but they’re wounded in a way they’ve never truly been, and like all predators that makes them more dangerous, not less.
Always the voice of common sense, Darlene seems to be the only one who realizes this. Forever looking ahead, she’s got about five backup plans in play, despite the fact that she has no Elliot to run them by.
Yes, Elliot has taken a sabbatical as he tries desperately to be normal. It’s a waste of time, as he (and we) know he’ll never truly be like other people. Rami Malek continues to give a tour de force performance as Elliot, as he quietly goes even more insane in the pursuit of normalcy.
I can’t wait for him to break.
- The fact that Elliot’s parents didn’t have CPS called on them is a minor miracle as what little we see of them in the flashbacks doesn’t paint a pretty picture.
- Speaking of, if Elliot isn’t physically ill I will be shocked.
- There’s a sequence of events in the premiere that gave me Ex_Machina flashbacks, just utterly chilling.
- The best cameo of all time is in this episode. I won’t ruin it for you but yeah. It’s really him.
