Awesome Con – The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Panel with Brett Dalton and Elizabeth Henstridge

Awesome Con hosted an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. panel with Brett Dalton (Ward/Hive) and Elizabeth Henstridge (Simmons), which was moderated (rather fabulously) by Pop Culture Uncovered’s own Ben Taylor to a packed room. The audience was very enthusiastic about their questions and involvement with the actors. Brett and Elizabeth were very witty and played off each other amazingly, which can only speak to what happens on the set of AoS as well as their mutual appreciation for each other. Brett Dalton had significant difficulties in containing spoilers, which was a major scream to the audience members who are caught up on AoS. We also had some good fun with Brute Squad volunteer, Sean, who tried to manage the microphone line (a thankless task I am sure). Below are some of the highlights of the Q&A including some really funny quotes from Brett and Elizabeth:

On Ward’s return:

Brett – “I’m hoping that I can come back as a robot. They did introduce the LMD’s so there’s hope. I hope there’s honey.”

Elizabeth – “Me too.”

Hive’s honey scene was a big part of the panel.

Brett – “I am trying to put this out of my head. I don’t know the name of the substance but it’s a thickening agent for milkshakes. It took about an hour to put on. As the scene progressed, the puddle you see was so big that I was picking it up and putting it on myself. It was cool – this was my big Terminator moment.”

Elizabeth – “They should name a milkshake after you. The McHive milkshake.”

Brett – (Hums the McDonald’s tune.)

If you could have one super power for one day what would it be?

Elizabeth – “Going from one place to another.”

Brett – “That’s good. We’ll stick to that one.”

Elizabeth – “Swim underwater.” Laughter. “I mean hold my breath for a long time.”

Who’s more fun to play – Good Ward, Evil Ward or Hive?

Brett – “Evil Ward.”

Communication between Fitz and Simmons on the show with all the science terms:

Elizabeth – “The script comes up with scientific words. I Google it to make sure I pronounce it right. We have a get out of jail free card because we are British and we pronounce things wrong anyway. I also come from a medical family, but when I ask them, they tell me it doesn’t exist.”

How does it feel to open a comic book and see your characters in comics?

Elizabeth – “It’s lovely to sign a comic book with you in it. It’s trippy.”

Brett – “I get to wear the Iron Man suit in my comic book.”

For Brett – how was it like playing 3 different characters?

Brett – “Contrary to my Wikipedia page that I knew from the beginning I was going to play three different characters, which I will make sure to edit since I started that rumor. It was great. We were a big family.

Elizabeth – “Until you ruined it.”

Brett – “I see it as a huge opportunity and run with it. It’s the best time of my life. I get to play that now.”

Elizabeth – “You can’t throw that at just any actor.” (To Brett) “You nailed it.”

About their characters being in Marvel movies:

Elizabeth – “Logistically it’s crazy to be in the movies because we shoot 10 months out of the year.”

Brett – “I’m free. Hashtag WARD LIVES.”

Elizabeth – “He needs his own show.”

Brett – “We already have product placement.” (Hums the McDonald’s tune again).

Which Marvel character would you to cross over with?

Elizabeth – “Black Widow. I’m kind of obsessed with her and she needs to have her own movie with me in it.”

Brett – “Mojo. Clearly, he’s had milkshakes.”

If your character was an Inhuman, what powers would you want them to have?

Elizabeth – “Not to have to sleep, not need to sleep. She’s so obsessed with work.”

On Captain America: Civil War, which side would you pick?

Brett – “Team Hydra!”

Simmons – “Isn’t that where Cap is now?”

What is your favorite prop on the show?

Elizabeth – “A microscope because you can look like you’re doing something important.”

Brett – “The trench coat because I look fabulous twirling in it.”

And as the panel concluded, Brett gave the audience a sample twirl. Thank you Brett, Elizabeth, Ben and of course, Sean.
