Judge Dredd has been one of my favorite comic book characters and when you pair him up with Batman, the Caped Crusader of Gotham, you get an awesome crossover story. A quick rundown of the story is the Joker gets his hands on a dimensional jump device and his spirit is transported to Mega-City One. He teams up with the Dark Judges and wreaks havoc in a Megasphere full of hedonists with Judge Dredd and Batman on his tail.

Cool story, but the cover art to the story is great. Many of the crossover stories have amazing cover art, but I chose this one because of Glenn Fabry’s character design. I honestly don’t know a lot about the guy, but the way he draws, inks, and colors these characters is beautiful. The detail of realism in their design looks astounding and gives of a sense of dread and joy. The Joker looks so happy on the cover, but we know what hides behind his smile. Batman looks scary as he snarls at you with his red eyes, Anderson wielding her trusty “Lawgiver” is sexy and dangerous, and Dredd with his classic frown looks menacing. Dredd’s “Lawmaster” looks amazing as it comes at you on the cover. Fabry makes muscles look good, as these characters are in near skin tight uniforms. The background meshes well with the characters on the cover, showing off Mega-City One with it’s intricate design in the corner.

The colors meld well together as greens and yellow flow into each other. The lights on Dredd’s “Lawmaster” glows off the motorcycle is cool and creates some great shadows. Even the portion of Mega-City One looks rustic with it’s use of browns, greens, and reds. I love the classic Batman colors and the blades on his arm flow with his swing. Jokers penciled face is interesting as it is not as detailed as the others, but works with his portion of the screen.

This is an amazing cover to part one of the story and the team up is one of my favorites.
