Aitch’s Next Issue Comic reviews week of 7/17/2013

*AS ALWAYS BE MINDFUL THAT THERE WILL BE SLIGHT SPOILERS, READ AT YOUR OWN PERIL!!**

**So I get a message the other day and one of my readers asked how come I don’t do long and in depth reviews of comics I read.

It’s because:

1. 9 times out of 10 you were probably going to pick up the comic anyway

2. if you wanted longer reviews, there are at least 5 sites that will do that for you

3. if you reeeeeeeeeaaallly want an in depth review, then really, justpick up the book.

🙂

Alright, so let’s talk briefly about some comics!

Justice League of America 6

So last week we had JL 22 which kicked off the Trinity War with the death of Dr Light at the hands of Superman and then we get this book this week.  it’s a bit formulaic in which we just have nearly a confusing mess of a battle and then Superman tells everyone to calm down as he surrenders to ARGUS.  So far, it’s an ok arc as we finally see that a lot of members like the new Atom who signed up with the JLA realizes just what they have gotten themselves into. One of the funnier parts of this book was when Batman talks to Superman as he is being detained in ARGUS and Superman is constantly coughing to which Batman says “..as long as I have known you, you never cough.”  I got a good chuckle out of that.  There is more mystery surrounding the Pandora’s Box and Wonder Woman starts to dig around and we are still unclear as to what role The Question plays in all of this.  So far it’s a decent start to this event with my only problem being that if you want the complete story you will wind up having to buy some comics you otherwise don’t want but if the story gives a good payoff then all will be well. Just as long as it’s not a dog of an event like Ultron Wars.

3 out of 5 stars

All New X-men 6

Ok, I really wanna like this book. I really do but my gosh this arc is just plodding along and I really want to see stuff happen. We get a little bit as we get to see how far Jean Grey’s control extends and it’s a bit scary.  We have a book where the X men face off with the newest iteration of the Brotherhood of Evil mutants and it’s fairly interesting.  But as per bendis style, there is entirely too much yakkity yak and not enough fisticuffs and then when it’s all over, the ball gets severely dropped as SHIELD takes custody of Mysique and guess what…??  I mean come on guys really?  This woman JUST impersonated your director a few issues back and you can’t see fit to have eyeballs on her as you take her in?  That’s a bit of sloppiness I have to blame on the writer.   Either have her escape in battle or in a few later issues after she has been imprisoned right away.  This ending just makes the good guys look like keystone cops.

2.5 out of 5

Uncanny X men 8

Now in an issue where yakkity yak does work for it, in this issue we get to see a confrontation between Scott and Magneto where it’s starting to become clear what may happen between these two down the road.  I don’t know what it is tho, but for some reason I am not feeling Magneto’s new look.  And then Fabio (Goldballs) goes home and gets a typical family reception as comes out of the closet as being a mutant including  the government showing up on his doorsteps and meantime…it looks like a new member may be joining the club.
