Aitch’s Next Issue Comic reviews week of 5/29/13

**AS ALWAYS BE MINDFUL THAT THERE WILL BE SLIGHT SPOILERS, READ AT YOUR OWN PERIL!!**

It’s a bit of a slow week but nonetheless some books to be found.

The Wake # 1 of10

This new Veritgo title written by Scott Snyder and art by Sean Murphy is an average book at best. It starts off with a post apocalyptic world covered by water featuring flying gliders and then takes us back to the past where a disgraced NOAA scientist is tasked to find out the mystery of a sound pattern found underwater.  There is the ‘intrigue’ of her finding out that she is not the only recruit brought in to solve the mystery as she is teamed with some former collegues some of whom she harbors not so great feelings for on this project. I am a bit on the fence about finishing this story as the first issue was a bit blah because it’s all setup and it’s one of those starts where it feels like ‘you have been ther before”  but the artwork by Murphy has a very excellent 80’s throwback feel to it. I will give this 2 more issues to hook me but it has a very John Carpenter-ish feel to it and if that’s your thing, pick it up.

X-men #1

Writer: Brian Wood    Artists:  Olivier Coipel, Mark Morales

Wow, this was truly a fun read!  If you aren’t already, you should also be checking out the revamped Star Wars title that Woods is doing.  And if Woods gets this right he can do for the lady X men what Geoff Johns has done for several DC characters by adding some depth and likability to it.  First off, YES. Storm has her 80s mohawk back…pure hotness. Also she is leading this team of lady X-men featuring Rogue, and Kitty pride and a few cameos by Pixie, Bling and others.  Wood does well establishing not only the team and their respecive voices but the villian which Jubilee does not realize that she may be protecting.  The artwork is great giving life and personality to the book’s characters and if it stays consistent, this may outshine All-new X-men as my favorite X book.  You cannot miss with this.
