Sherri watches the winter trailers and gives her thoughts!

On Monday afternoon, I saw Captain America: Brave New World, since I enjoy watching the trailers; here are my thoughts on the ones I saw before this movie. For the first time in a long time, I enjoyed all the trailers and am interested in seeing all these films. I pulled all the summaries from IMDB to make this easier for me.

Thunderbolts

Summary: After finding themselves ensnared in a death trap, an unconventional team of antiheroes must embark on a dangerous mission that will force them to confront the darkest corners of their pasts.

Release Date: May 2, 2025

Thoughts:  Of the four trailers I saw, this one is the one I’m most looking forward to. I like it when Marvel returns to characters they have introduced in other projects but have not fully fleshed out. I’m still a fan of the MCU and will be excited to see this one.

Drop

Summary: A widowed mother’s first date in years takes a terrifying turn when she’s bombarded with anonymous threatening messages on her phone during their upscale dinner, leaving her questioning if her charming date is behind the harassment.

Release Date: April 11, 2025

Thoughts: This would not be a movie I would typically gravitate to, but I’m interested. The premise of the film is fascinating. First dates are always stressful, not to mention being instructed to kill the person you are on a first date with. I’m wondering where on the line between suspense and horror we are with this movie, but I may be on board to watch it. I may not see it in the theater, but I’ll see it when it comes to home screens.

The Amateur

Summary: A CIA cryptographer manages to blackmail his agency into training him and letting him go after a group of terrorists who killed his wife.

Release Date: April 11, 2025

Thoughts: This is Rami Malik going from CIA tech nerd to Jason Bourne. I’m on the fence about this one. The cast is strong, and includes Laurence Fishburne and Jon Bernthal. However, I’m not sure I see Rami as a secret agent, however, as I type that, I see that that is the point. This premise has been done so often that I wonder where they will energize it. This is a maybe.

Last Breath

Summary: This true story follows seasoned deep-sea divers who battle the raging elements to rescue their crewmate trapped hundreds of feet below the ocean’s surface.

Release Date: February 28, 2025

Thoughts: As someone who is not a strong swimmer, I think this film may have unlocked a new fear. I would never have been in this situation, but I’m still scared. It’s a strong cast with Simu Liu and Woody Harrelson, and it looks well shot and directed, but this is not the film for me. So no ratings arrow as I probably won’t watch this movie.

Can’t wait to see what new trailers await me.
