Music Brew: Access All Areas by FLO

Brace yourselves for greatness with FLO…

Access All Areas is the first studio album from UK girl-group, FLO, who formed together in 2019.

FIRST album! Are you kidding?? They come out with this right off the bat???

If they don’t win some type of award, it’ll have been robbery. FLO deserves the highest of praise for this body of work. And it’s giving bodyyy.

Can I just say, if you want to feel sexy as hell and empowered at that, then listen to this album. These womxn will put you right where you wanna be. Of course, I recognize that that is only my experience, but no matter how you identify, you should definitely still give this a listen!

FLO – consisting of members Jorja, Renée, and Stella – takes listeners on a R&B/soul journey about self-worth, fem power and sex. However, these girls don’t shy away from other genres. We hear swiftly-plucked acoustic guitar strings on “Caught Up,” some rock influence in “I’m Just a Girl,” and of course they have pop and trap to round it out.

Access All Areas includes 16 tracks, and these womxn sing on each one. Getting to witness their confidence about their talent and hotness feels like a blessing. They should absolutely flaunt and brag about it; they’re phenomenal.

(I feel the need to disclose that I was tipsy listening to this whole thing, but that didn’t make me appreciate it any less. In fact, I leaned into it more without hesitation – LOL.)

Upon hearing Track 1, simply titled “Intro” featuring Cynthia Erivo – who only spoke – I was already sat and blown away. FLO’s control of their vocal runs is succinct, their confident aura refreshing, and their execution of blunt messages served up through their lyrics is breathtaking.

These womxn know their worth and what they want, and that’s hot; it’s honestly what I live for. FLO is candidly honest about it all, which makes them even more powerful, in my opinion.

For example, in “How Does It Feel?” the trio ask their men what it’s like to have the privilege of being around them, singing, “I bet you feel like that man when you next to me, just as you should … How does it feel to know I could have anyone but you the one that I want? … Brag about it / Tell your friends you can’t live without it.”

Listening to Access All Areas from front to back is definitely the ideal, and my recommended, way of appreciating it. The transitions from one song to the next are seamless, and, without checking, you might not even realize that they’ve slid onto another track entirely. FLO has flow. However, each song’s instrumental production impressively sets a unique scene and distinct mood, leaving listeners feeling satisfied despite all tracks being linked to one another.

The only consistent producer credited on every single track is MNEK (he/she/they), full name Uzoechi Osisioma “Uzo” Emenike, an English record producer, writer, and singer themselves. Starting their career at only age 16, MNEK definitely knows what they’re doing grouping up with these ladies.

My favorites keep rotating the more that I listen to it, which I feel is a true testament of how strong an album they’ve created.

Moral of the story: womxn are everything. Don’t f*ck them over, because they will show you no mercy.
