Music Brew: 2 hands by Tate McRae
Canadian-born Tate McRae – my favorite famous girlie right now – has released her second single from her third upcoming album, So Close to What, titled “2 hands.”
At only 21, she’s either been nominated or has won awards from [the] Junos, MTV Video, iHeartRadio, Billboard, Global, and from the Dance Awards (a competition held in both Las Vegas and Orlando every year).
First of all, having three albums at only 21 years old? Crazy. She’s already had an abundance of experience in the fame department, as well as romantic relationships, and it shows in her music.
However in her latest single, 2 hands, McRae is clear that she does NOT need a relationship. All she wants is to be touched.
In a YouTube short, she describes more than one song on this new album, dropping February 21st, as having a “sexy beat depressing lyrics.” And GodDAMN, is she right. The songs so far, It’s ok I’m ok and 2 hands, are both beyond sensual and addictive, and the way her confidence just oozes out of them is infectious.
She gives fans an explosive chorus and a dance-break-bridge…because it’s Tate and we have to have a dance break!!
The concept of her not wanting any of the “mushy” or “sappy” parts of a relationship because someone has done her so dirty they’ve hurt her is sad, and I want to punch that person into next week. Yet, she still recognizes what she needs and isn’t afraid to go for it by advertising it on a billboard if she has to. She knows what she wants and what she doesn’t and will say it – loudly.
In the chorus she sings, “Want your two hands on me like my life needs savin’.” She needs the physically intimate aspect of a relationship so badly that she’s equating it to getting rescued from life-threatening danger. Relatable. Sing it louder for the people in the back, Tate. Damn.
In the music video, she races around in a sports car, and those motor sounds truly heighten the feel of this song. The increase in speed, the adrenaline; it’s sort of equivalent to the feelings you get from a fling that leaves you hot, bothered, and flushed.
I just appreciate how spicy she is, and how often she says it with her chest; probably because she was never forced to grow up on a Disney Channel or Nickelodeon show.
I wish I could see her live in concert. I was talking about her with my friends a while back, and we feel like it’s been sooo long since we had a dance-heavy, pop girlie emerge, and she is feeding us to the brink.
She’s like this siren whose talent gives me goosebumps; ride or die for her, for real. If any of y’all are going to her Miss Possessive Tour starting in March of this year, just know I’m jealous and require evidence of your evening.
I’m so happy that Tate has entered the pop divas circle. And rightfully so. She earned her motherf*ckin’ spot.

Thirsting for this album as a whole. I’m gonna pass out; I just know it. February cannot come soon enough.
Rating: 5 out of 5 hands
