It’s been 18 years since we left The Matrix where peace between the humans and machines seemed to be at hand. On Wednesday, December 22nd we are back. The synopsis from IMDB reads “Return to a world of two realities: one, everyday life; the other, what lies behind it. To find out if his reality is a construct, or to be himself, Mr. Anderson will have to choose to follow the white rabbit once more.”
Sidenote A condition of my screening was that I cannot write about the plot of the movie for this review.
Lana Wachowski is back in the directors’ chair with Keanu Reeves and Carrie Ann Moss back as Neo and Trinity. It was fantastic to see how the characters are living after the events of The Matrix Revolutions. Joining the cast are Jonathan Groff, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jessica Henwick, Neil Patrick Harris, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas each bringing something unique and amazing to the proceedings. I was happy to see Christina Ricci back in action and she’s fantastic in her part.
The original trilogy was lauded for its distinctive storytelling and amazing CGI and visuals. This sequel continues the tradition due to the use of the same production team. The plot is stellar, the acting excellent, the effects, mind-blowing. I admit to asking myself “did we really need a sequel” but after viewing the film I whole heartily recommend this film. There is not one minute wasted in its 2-hour 28-minute run time.
Releasing in theaters and on HBOMax on Wednesday, December 22nd. It is a must-see.
Solid 4.5 stars out of 5
Thank you to Allied Marketing and Warner Brothers for the advanced screening.
