Movie Brew: ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ Trailer

On Friday, April 12th at Star Wars Celebration in Chicago, Lucasfilm released the trailer to Star Wars: Episode IX. The final film in the Skywalker Saga is highly anticipated and is set for a December 2019 release. If you missed it when it dropped, here it is:

As stated earlier, Episode IX is the final film in the Skywalker Saga and will close out the sequel trilogy that started in 2015 with The Force Awakens and continued in 2017 with The Last Jedi. The Force Awakens was helmed by director JJ Abrams and was a critical and commercial success when it was released. The follow up, The Last Jedi was written and directed by Rian Johnson and was well received by critics but left the fanbase divided. While the fans had mixed reactions to the film, it still did very well at the box office.

The road to Episode IX has been an interesting one to say the least. Director Collin Trevorow of Jurassic World fame was tasked with writing and directing the film but left after having creative differences with the team at Lucasfilm. Shortly after Trevorow’s departure, Lucasfilm brought Abrams back to finish the story that he had started in The Force Awakens. Episode IX will pick up after the events of The Last Jedi and will feature the Resistance rebuilding their ranks while trying to rid the galaxy of the tyrannical First Order. Oscar Isaac, Daisy Ridley and John Boyega reprise their roles as Poe, Rey and Finn alongside Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Billy Dee Williams and Carrie Fisher in her final appearance on screen.

While we still don’t know the full synopsis of the story, we can expect Episode IX will not only change the face of the galaxy far, far away, but it will deliver an emotional finale that fans will be talking about forever.
