The search for Gilad/The Undying One has finally come to a head in Ninja-K #12. Ninjak continues to fight hordes of monsters in Chernobyl while searching for The Undying One. Ninjak infiltrates an underground facility where he is confronted by a monster that he must decide whether he wants to kill it or not. Meanwhile MI-6 is still trying to track down Livewire and Ninjak doesn’t want anything to do with it until he completes his mission.

I have said it time and again about Christos Gage, but he is the best writer for this series. His handling of the characters is top notch and you can tell this is a story he cares about. The element of adding Livewire into the story after her involvement in Harbinger Wars 2 is genius. I love the continuity connections that Gage has made throughout this series. While this feels like it’s own small corner of the Valiant Universe, it feels so much bigger than that. That truly is a testament to the writing.

I have no complaints about the art at all and De La Torre delivers in every panel. This book is full of action pieces and they are gorgeous. The panels of Ninjak fighting the monster in the second act of the book are some of my favorites in a long time. I also love Ninjak’s look and his gadgets look great. Even Gilad, who is in just a few panels, is well drawn. All I have left to say about the art is that I love it.

I really had a hard time trying to find something wrong with this book. If I had one thing to take away that I didn’t like, it would be that I wanted this book to focus more on Ninjak finding Livewire than finding Gilad. Gilad felt out of place in a story that is about finding him. I think it’s the fact that Livewire has been so important in this universe lately that I am willing to push the main story aside for this subplot.

4.5 Ninjak’s out of 5
