Dan Jurgens is one of the best writers in comics today and the story he tells in this book is great. It is so action packed and fast paced. It feels like the beginning of the third act of a movie. The pieces are starting to get into place for the final showdown. I also really enjoyed the Die Hard feel of this book with John Stewart and Simon Baz taking out enemies left and right. This book also ends on a fun cliffhanger that makes me want to see how things are resolved in the next issue.

The art by Mike Perkins really fits the tone of the story. It’s dark and gritty but it also has some great use of brighter colors. My favorite panels come towards the end of the book with the cliffhanger. I won’t say what it is because that would ruin the fun of the book. John Stewart and Simon Baz look great and every action sequence they are in showcases them fighting in different styles and it delivers.

If there is one thing that I didn’t enjoy with this book, it’s the fact that Cyborg Superman is too much of a cartoon. He feels too much like a villain from a James Bond film. For a story that has a very serious tone, this was pretty jarring. I hope that Jurgens cleans up the writing for Cyborg Superman in the next issue.

This is still a fun read and it showcases two of my favorite Green Lanterns
