The Seventh Doctor and Ace race against time to stop some villains from releasing nuclear weapons on the world. Doctor Who: The Seventh Doctor #3 is the conclusion of the Operation Volcano storyline. The Doctor and Ace gather their allies for one last confrontation against mysterious enemies bent on world destruction. Their enemies want to use an alien spaceship to launch nukes and then blame the aliens on it and start an intergalactic war.
I have been happy with the writing by Andrew Cartmel and this book is no exception. Cartmel ups the stakes in the final chapter of this event. The Doctor is written perfectly and his companions are fantastic. The aliens really take center stage here and they are so compelling and you empathize with them as you see their story unfold. There is also a subplot from the first issue that finally resurfaces and is resolved in a fun way. Cartmel leaves no stone unturned when it comes to the various plots. He also paves the way for more tales with the Seventh Doctor.
The art by Christopher Jones is great. The Doctor looks great as usual and his companions look really good. I love how Jones incorporates the various personality traits of each character in the way they look. The villains look menacing and mysterious but they also have the camp factor from the old series by wearing their blue jumpsuits. Jones just crushes it with the art.
I really couldn’t find anything wrong with this book at all. It was great finale to a fun adventure.
