First name and last initial: Christine E.
Where are you from originally or reside currently? Robins, Iowa
How long you have been cosplaying? A couple of years now.
Other Characters cosplayed: I’ve cosplayed Dirk Strider (Homestuck), Toriel (Undertale), Sugilite and Jasper (Steven Universe), Pyramid Head (Silent Hill 2+), Discord (My Little Pony), and a couple others!
What inspired you to start cosplaying? My love for Halloween naturally progressed when I discovered I could be named characters rather than generic cats and clowns. When I heard that conventions were a thing from the Internet, my enthusiasm really shot off. My father was kind enough to take me to one; soon after, more cons popped up in my area, and even my father got in on the cosplaying fun.
What do you do when you are not cosplaying? I also work at a haunted house, Scream Acres, where I enjoy making custom horror costumes and have a blast skulking around the cornfield—but my day job is proofreading.
What costumes have provided the biggest challenge and rewards so far and why? Honestly, though a lot of work goes into making them, wearing them is the biggest issue for me. I keep upping the ante with heavier, hotter, and more intricate costumes, like Sugilite, Jasper, and Dirk, that leave me a sore and aching puddle of sweat after the con. But damn, do I feel awesome wearing them.
What is the best advice you would give someone new to cosplaying? Start small, plan ahead, draw diagrams, measure, and know that coupons and secondhand are truly your friends.
What is one thing the cosplaying community can do better when it comes to dealing with each other? I think the recent emphasis on “cosplay is not consent” at cons is a wonderful step in the right direction we should keep up.
