Bandai Namco’s Code Vein Gets a Brutal (and Beautiful) New Trailer

What do you get when you take a post-apocalyptic anime, and add in vampires and bloody combat?

You get Bandai Namco’s upcoming Code Vein! The Dark Souls-tinged action title, almost slipped under our radar here at PCU, but the recently-released gameplay trailer caught our attention, and it offers a good look at the game’s bloody and visceral combat.

Sure, it looks like the team at Bandai Namco drew heavy inspiration from the Dark Souls and Bloodborne games, but it’s also plain to see that Code Vein could be bringing a lot of its own flavor to things. For example, Code Vein’s combat mechanics allow you to summon a pair of vicious wolves to aid you in taking down enemies – and they do it in a wonderfully savage way (as you can see in the video above). The wolves also seem to help augment combos and various other techniques in the game’s combat.

Code Vein Hell Hounds

Again, Code Vein takes vampires, a post-apocalyptic landscape, and anime-style art, and fuses it all together. The game’s synopsis seems indicates that the mission of the game is to take a team of revenants (called “Vein”) and battle against a group of bloodthirsty ghouls known as the Lost. Throughout the game, your group must uncover the mystery of the disaster which caused the collapse of society, all while risking their own humanity by giving in to the bloodlust that lurks inside of them.

While there’s no exact release date yet set for Code Vein, we do know that it will release sometime this year, for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Pre-orders are already available, and you can guarantee that we’ll be jumping on this one!
