Fans of the seminal 80s tv series “V” have reason to rejoice. Kenneth Johnson–writer, producer, and director of the original–dropped the announcement on his site that The Visitors will be back on the big screen.
Desilu Studios, Inc announced today that it will bring the long-awaited
sci-fi feature film “V The Movie”, a big-budget treatment of the highly
successful, critically-acclaimed 80’s miniseries to movie screens worldwide.
The film will be written and directed by the original’s creator, Kenneth
Johnson and produced by John Hermansen, Barry Opper and Johnson.
“We are delighted to team up with Desilu to bring the timeless — and
timely — story of resistance against tyranny into the 21st Century,”
Johnson said. “V will be the first of a cinematic trilogy which will tell
the full epic tale in the manner I always envisioned.”
To those that haven’t seen the original mini-series OR the 2009 reboot on ABC, it is the story of what happens after gigantic alien spaceships appear over major cities around the world filled with smiling aliens that offer life-changing technologies and the hand of friendship. When the Alien’s true agenda is revealed, the war for Earth begins.
Further statements from Johnson verify that the movie will either be a reboot of the original or a continuation of it.
The announcement above is a very important and extremely positive
development toward achieving our goal of making V The Movie and the
two sequels based upon my novel “V The Second Generation”.
Personally, as a longtime fan of the franchise, I’m giddy with excitement over this news. Hopefully it won’t be too long now before details on the cast and an actual release date are revealed. It might be the time again to break out the red spray paint and spread the message.
