If you are an Assassin’s Creed fan, you are probably knee deep into the adventures of Bayek as he makes his way through Egypt to start the Brotherhood of Assassins. As some of you may have noticed, since Desmond’s demise in Assassin’s Creed III gamers seemingly have spent less and less time outside of the Animus which bridged our understanding between the past and the present day conflict between the Brotherhood and Templars.
Actually, if you played Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, it probably seemed like you spent the least amount of time out of the Animus and more time in London before and during World War I. If you are one of those fans that wants to understand what’s going on with the present day story, Ubisoft actually did somewhat of an update that got us as far as Assassin’s Creed: Unity.
However while it may seem like Assassin’s Creed Syndicate didn’t do much to progress the present day story outside of the Animus, there was still a lot happening if you chose to take on the World War I missions. Remember, the Templars wanted the Shroud in order for them to construct a living Precursor. We also find out that Juno is manipulating people behind the scenes in order to cause chaos at Abstergo.
If you made it this far into the series and have gotten a few hours into Assassin’s Creed: Origins, you probably are saying to yourself that while you are having fun roaming Egypt, you still want to know what’s going on in the present day and you may even feel that the game is once again being neglectful regarding this. Well actually, this may not be the case.
Enter Layla Hassan who is the latest operator of an animus and if you are paying attention, the one that she uses is a portable version. Layla is a bit of a rebel and decides to take matters into her own hands thus she relives Bayek’s and Aya’s memories. Part of the reason she does this is because as creative and skillful she is with the Animus, she never got a promotion with Abstergo. Her idea is that she can prove her worth by finding the key memories needed and Abstergo will bring her aboard the Animus project. If you want to know more, then the Assassin’s Creed wiki gives a run down of what happens with major spoilers, which includes the return of one major character.
One huge suggestion I will make to gamers is to take roughly 20 minutes and go through Layla’s computer and look at everything. It will pretty much get you up to speed with what’s been happening including some ambiguous disappearances. Do it early on and then every time you get to a portion of the game where you are pulled out of the animus, check the computer again. While not as involved as the earlier games, the information that you find is useful.
The bottom line is, do not despair if it seems like Ubisoft has forgotten about the present day story. While it seems like we are spending more time in the Animus in times gone by, there is still a lot going on in the present day world, the key is staying on top of what’s happening.
