Cave, Wild Dog and Chloe make a run for it in this issue of Cave Carson, with a beast right on their tails, new dangers ahead and Paul sending his spec-ops team after them. The real story here, as always, is the family dynamics with Chloe understandably upset when she finds out just who her mother really was.

Way and Rivera continue to craft a smart story, doing some impressive world building while advancing the plot. However the biggest thing here is the dialogue. One of the things that always bothers me about comics, even the more modern ones, is how people don’t react to the situation they’re in. Yes, they have super-powers or fancy gadgets and are in insane situations but sometimes it’s okay to go, ‘Seriously….WTF is going on??’. Way and Rivera capture that perfectly in Chloe’s increasingly incredulous reactions. It’s hilarious and wonderfully human.

Oeming, Filardi and Robins’ art, colors and letters make everything better, making the issue pop with color; the action scenes are fantastic making you feel like you’re in the middle of the adventure and the lettering makes every sentence awesome.

Three issues in and Cave Carson has me hooked. Five out of five MREs.
