Pokémon Go is Feeling the Halloween Spirit with a Special Event!

Loyal Pokémon Go players, it’s time for our first seasonal celebration! Halloween is fast approaching, and to celebrate, Niantic is beginning a special seven-day event. From October 26 through November 1, Pokémon Go will raise the rates for gaining candy and up the spawn rates for select Pokémon.

The biggest change will be the increased rate for candy, from every possible source. Catching Pokémon will give you six Candies, instead of three; transferring them to the Professor will net you two Candies, rather than one. We’ll try to ignore what diabolical plans that mad scientist, Willow, has in store for those poor souls.

This doubling carries over to hatching your Pokémon as well, with twice the amount you would usually receive. Common (2km) eggs will net you 20, while Rare (10km) eggs will give you a whopping 60! Even your Buddy will help you, as they’ll find Candy at four times the usual amount when you walk with them. A Snorlax will get you four every 5km, while a Magikarp discovers the same every km. Now’s the time to get out there and go “trick-or-treating” for Candy by catching, transferring, hatching, and walking!

The other change is an increase in chances to catch seasonally-appropriate Pokémon. Each of these “spooky” types will become more frequent than usual, although the exact spawn rate or if they’ll change their natural habitats is unknown. It would be great to see these out of their usual haunts and in our living rooms, but no promises. Look for the following to torment a location near you, no Silph Scope necessary:

  • Zubat
  • Golbat
  • Gastly
  • Haunter
  • Gengar
  • Drowzee
  • Hypno

As an avid Pokéhunter, this new event is exciting. Halloween is a great holiday for all ages and encourages people to get out and about. Plus, this may just be the first of many seasonal events! Who knows what they might have in store for the future? Another candy boost on Valentine’s Day? More (or faster hatching) eggs on Easter? Let’s just hope they don’t decide to increase Pidgey, Spearow, and Psyduck spawn rates for Thanksgiving… although I wouldn’t mind some leg of Legendary Bird!

Regardless, let’s load up that app, ready your Pokémon Go Plus, and dust off that trainer’s cap. It’s time to catch the eeriest of them all!
