New info surfaces on 2017’s final ‘Wolverine’ movie

There’s been a lot of chatter about Hugh Jackman’s final ‘Wolverine’ film recently, which has been “jacked” up (see what we did there?) even more by the recent tweet from the film’s star, revealing the poster and the movie’s simple title: Logan.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD – YOU’VE BEEN WARNED

In an exclusive yesterday, TheWrap.com revealed that the film will take place “in the year 2024”, and that it is “darker than any other Wolverine or X-men movie” before it. We also know that the film will draw heavily from the ‘Old Man Logan’ story arc in the comics, with our titular hero not looking good, drinking heavily, and having his mutant healing factor wane. The film’s director, James Mangold, also tweeted an image of the script’s second page, corroborating this information. The scripting indicates a hyperviolent fight between Logan and some Spanish-speaking, crowbar-toting enemies (Reavers, maybe?) while our hero is quite drunk.

The Nerdist also released a video yesterday, in which host Jessica Chobot spoke about the inclusion of Nathaniel Essex (aka Mr. Sinister) into the film as its lead villain. As we saw from the end credits scene to X-Men: Apocalypse, a sample of blood was seen bearing the Essex Corp. logo. This, coupled with the rumor that the small hand in the film’s poster belongs to “a young mutant” girl, would lead fans to believe that this signals the possible introduction of X-23. We’ve also learned that an organization known as Transigen – which reportedly turns mutant children into killing machines (a la the Weapon X program) – will factor heavily into the film. That seems a pretty clear indicator to us that X-23 will make an appearance, and that Logan will have someone he needs to protect in the final film.

Finally, we know (based on tweets from Jackman & Sir Patrick Stewart), that the film will also feature an older Professor X. The professor, however, is not well. With his powers growing unstable, they are taking a toll on Xavier’s mind. Enter the mutant Caliban (whom some fans will remember from the X-Cutioner’s Song arc in the comics), who comes in to help care for the ailing professor.

Logan will hit theaters worldwide on March 3rd, 2017.

Are you excited for this film, dear readers? How do you think things will pan out for our hero Logan? What sort of danger will he face? Let us know your thoughts & theories in the comments!
