Could Firefly be returning as an animated series?

Almost 2 years ago, the website Nerd Approved posted a sneak peek at what could potentially be an animated series based on none other than the cult classic Joss Whedon show ‘Firefly’. Now, it looks like the show may actually become a reality.

Created by artist Stephen Byrne, ‘The Animated Adventures of Firefly’ follows the crew of Serenity after the events of the 2005 film of the same name.  On August 14th, Byrne posted a teaser trailer of the project to his YouTube channel.

The stylized art in the trailer almost looks like a cross between recent Disney-style art, and the style of Genndy Tartakovsky’s Cartoon Network series, ‘Samurai Jack’.  While the trailer doesn’t show much, it does give us a look at the core cast, brought back as animated characters. Captain Mal, Zoë, Inarra, Jayne, Kaylee, Simon, River, Shepherd, and yes…even Wash (or a hologram of him) can be seen.

No real production details have been revealed about the supposed series, aside from the teasing “SOON” seen in the video. It just leaves fans wondering: How soon is “SOON”? Where will it air? Will Fox betray us again?

Pop Culture Uncovered will keep our eyes on any developments, so stay tuned!
