From Hall H of San Diego Comic Con comes news that many of us having been waiting for with bated breath: who will play Captain Marvel? Taking the role that many people had thought would go to such actresses as Katee Sackhoff, Yvonne Strahovski, Natalie Dormer, or Anna Torv (among others); Brie Larson has officially been confirmed as Carol Danvers AKA Captain Marvel in Marvel Studio’s first female-led film.

Larson is best known for Oscar-winning role in Room, and is currently starring opposite Tom Hiddleston in Kong: Skull Island. She also starred as Envy Adams in Scott Pilgrim vs The World (where she shared the screen with Captain America himself, Chris Evans).

Created in 1968 by writer Roy Thomas and artist Gene Colan, Carol Danvers appeared in Marvel Super-Heroes #13, as an American security officer working alongside Captain Mar-Vell, an alien sent to study the planet Earth. She debuted as the super-powered character Ms. Marvel after her human DNA was fused with genes from the alien race known as the Kree. She went on to inherit the title of Captain Marvel in 2012.

Marvel Entertainment also tweeted the announcement AND revealed the official logo for the movie.

CAPTAIN MARVEL is scheduled for release in March 2019.
