Anime Food Craving: Japanese Style Pancake
When I go to IHOP, Denny’s, or any restaurant that serves breakfast, I usually get the make your own “Grand Slam” or combo with pancakes. Eating some fresh pancakes served with hot syrup drizzled on the top; it’s to die for. A few years ago, when I used to stay in a dorm, my roommate had a rice cooker. I didn’t really know what is was for, other than cooking rice. It was great! Years later I would get a rice cooker of my own. Now, I know what you’re thinking. You’re probably wondering how pancakes and rice cooker fit together. Well, I ran across this article about making pancakes by using a rice cooker and decided to try it out. The end result was a surprisingly big, and fluffy, pancake. I’ll let you in on the secret to making your very own. Also, results may vary when doing this.
What you’ll need:

- Electric Rice Cooker
- Pancake Mix (I used Bisquick for my pancake mix. I know it’s kind of cheating, but I’m not a chef.)
- Non-stick spray
Instructions
- Before putting the pancake mixture in, spray some non-stick spray into the pot.
- Next, just toss your pancake mix and other ingredients into the rice cooker’s inner pot.
- Stir the mixture until everything is completely mixed together.
- Not all rice cookers are the same. For mine, I just hit the white rice button and waited until it was ready.
- After it’s finished, just scoop it out and your have your pancake. I know it’s not big and fluffy like in some of the pictures.

- Now all you have to do is just clean the pot.
That’s all it takes to make a pancake in a rice cooker! Be it from scratch, blueberry, matcha or strawberry; don’t be afraid to experiment with your pancake mix. My advice is, if it’s your first time doing this, be careful to not fill the pot too high with the pancake mixture. You don’t want the lid to be fused with your pancake and it could prove difficult to open the rice cooker. Let us know if you plan on making one yourself. That’s a pretty big pancake!
