The good folks at Star Wars and Disney X D have finally unleashed the trailer for Season 3 of Star Wars Rebels. Set at an undisclosed period before Rogue One and A New Hope, the show will pick up from last season’s ending that saw Ahsoka Tano possibly dead, Ezra slipping to the dark side, and Kanan blinded. Highlights we observed included:

• Hera reuniting with her father Cham Syndulla a second time.
• Commander Rex re-donning his Clone Trooper armor and leading a charge against an army of Prequel-era droids.
• More Darth Maul.
• More Grand Moff Tarkin.
• The introduction of a young Wedge Antilles, still an Imperial before his defection to the Rebellion in Episode IV.
• Mandalorians joining the Empire. (No sign of Boba Fett)
• Sabine Wren reuniting with her Mandalorian people.
• Ezra continuing to darken.

And the big news is the first major reintroduction of an Expanded Universe character, Grand Admiral Thrawn. The beloved Imperial from Timothy Zahn’s Heir to the Empire trilogy returns. This coincides with the announcement of a Star Wars: Thrawn novel written by Zahn himself, coming in April 2017.
