Gaming while you wait: What we’re playing in the summer down time.

For us gamers, summer can be a blessing and a curse. Since the summer season is usually a lull in new games being released, a lot of us spend our time replaying games we’ve already played, or buying games which have been out for a while which we may not have gotten a chance to experience when they were first released.

This week, the gamers on the PCU staff got together & discussed what we are & will be playing during the slow summer season. We thought we would share our discussion with you readers, and maybe get some thoughts from you on what you’re playing or replaying.

Without further ado, let’s get into what each of us will be playing this summer.

DougFallout 4
First & foremost, I’m on my second play-through of Fallout 4, and really trying to grind out as much as I can. I have made it my personal mission to:
1. Get as many of the companion affinity perks as possible.
2. Max out as much of the Perk Chart as possible.
3. Get as many trophies as possible (I’m a bit of a completionist, I admit).

Second, I was recently gifted a copy of Injustice: Gods Among Us, since apparently it’s utterly shocking to some of my colleagues that I’ve only ever played the demo.  I plan on going through that one as much as possible, and learning as many of the characters as I can. In doing so, I also want to gear up for the release of the sequel (due out next year).

The Division
I’ve been bouncing around from game to game. A couple of my friends got me to try out DC Universe Online on Xbox One, as I’d played it years ago when it originally came out on PS3. It’s a fun game, but I kind of started to lose interest in it once I’d reached the point where it behooves you to get a paid subscription–paying for what’s supposed to be a free-to-play game is total anathema to me. Having absolutely loved the Warcraft movie, and with the impending release of the Legion expansion next month, I restarted my monthly subscription to World of Warcraft. I’m currently leveling a Pandaren (don’t judge me) Shaman. Since The Division dropped the Underground DLC, so I’ve also gone back to playing that also. Not that I’m averse to PvP, but I like that I don’t have to worry about getting ganked by Rogue Agents in the Underground like you would rolling thru the Dark Zone.

So many games so little time!  Well while it’s been a good time to get out and finally enjoy the weather, there have been days where it’s been so hot or rainy (and sometimes both) that it’s driven me right back inside.  Thus far a year later, I am still playing The Witcher 3.  I recently started playing the Blood and Wine DLC, and so far I enjoy it.  I recently finished a quest in which Geralt had to find a missing phallus from a statue and the whole plot was very humorous.  One of the things I like so much about this DLC is that every side quest is not so grim.  Also, I took advantage of the Steam sale and finally bought Company of Heroes 2.  With the sale going on, I managed to get the base game and its DLC. It’s still a fun RTS and I realize now how much of a difference it makes playing on a large screen (a 49″ UHD TV) with explosions going off around you.  Lastly, as transfers have just started happening in the footy world which is happening as the Euros are coming to a close, I have been firing up Football Manager 16 on rides to and from work to see if my shrewd moves are as good as Jose Mourinho.   I really can’t wait for the fall and Battlefield 1 to grace my console.

Arkham Knight
During the summer lull, I like to go back to games to which I have seen the endings, but may not have fully cleared. Right now, for instance, I am replaying Uncharted 4 to find all the treasures in the game, and I am doing it at a higher difficulty setting than my first play through. After seeing the end to Nathan Drake’s story on my first time through, I now want to fully complete the single player campaign. I may also get into the multiplayer in order to get the trophies attached to it.  Next, I am going back to Batman Arkham Knight. I played it first on my Xbox One, but about halfway through, the game save data got corrupted; so now I am playing from the beginning on my PS4. Lastly, my best friend and I are die-hard wrestling fans, so I have been playing tons of WWE 2K16 in various match-ups against him. We like to build rosters based on current wrestling programs like Lucha Underground and Ring of Honor. Then we face off against each other’s roster to find out who’s the best, because as you know there can be only one true WWE Champion.

There you have it, dear readers.  The games we here at Pop Culture Uncovered will be playing to occupy our time this summer.  What will you be playing / replaying?  Let us know in the comments!
