Rumor Control: X-Men and the MCU
It’s been circulating for the past few days that the X-Men Cinematic Universe is coming to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. People have already ran with the story and started imagining what life would be like on the big screen with Captain America battling Wolverine and more.
But before people go too far, let’s slow down. Let’s set the record straight on this.
Remember that it’s JUST a rumor. The speculation started when the producer of Fatman on Batman’s producer, Matt Key said:
“I’ve heard from a few of my sources, my little birds that Fox and Marvel have… kind of talked, but not really, but like there’s interest from Fox, like, ‘Ooh, y’know, what they did with Sony and Spider-Man is actually pretty cool, like, maybe…’ We’re years away from that ever possibly happening… but I think that’s what it would take… Fox joining hands with Marvel…”
See the complete interview here:
It’s the same as saying “So, what had happened was, he told me that she said that she heard from him that…” Do you see where this is going?
Let’s be clear, we are not calling Key a liar. Not at all but far from that. It’s putting what he said into the proper light. The idea of this move is pure speculation right now and until something official comes from Sony or Marvel/Disney, that’s all this is.
Plus the key part of the entire statement from Key is this, “We’re years away from that ever possibly happening….” Even if this happens, it’s not something that is going to occur next year. Considering that there are also several films and TV shows still in development, a lot would have to be done to revert those rights from 20th Century Fox to Marvel Studios. Furthermore, even though the last X-Men movie did not review very well, financially it was successful, so why give up on a cash cow? Let’s not forget that Deadpool did well also.
As others have said prior, if you are a comic book movie fan, this could be very exciting, just don’t expect it soon. Also, wait until am official response comes from one of those camps before getting too excited.
