There are days in all honestly, I really wish I could give up the internet cold turkey.  It seems like there is so much going on.  Between election news that many of us are sick of hearing about, debates about who should use what bathrooms, not to mention the disaster of the week, there are times I wish I could just turn it all off.

But then you get a bright spot.  You get stuff like “Chewbacca Mom.”  It was a simple selfie video in which Candace Payne takes a simple toy and shows that we can still have fun.

JJ Abrams gives her a wonderful surprise.

I watched that least 5 times and laughed each time I saw it.  The video and her laughing at such a simplistic toy shows that a moment of happiness doesn’t cost much. Her video didn’t rely on any tricks, nor photo shopping or weird editing.

Ms. Payne did something that a lot of us really needed to take time out to do and that was not to take life so seriously.  What made it so brilliant is that it was a moment that was spontaneous and I am willing to bet money that she didn’t expect the attention that she got and that is sometimes when people get the most attention.  If someone is going to be famous simply for the sake of…I will take her over a Kardashian any day.

What I loved most about this sort is that it’s a moment that reminded me of how all of us at some time in our childhood, we just loved life so much that there was nothing we could do but laugh at the simplest thing.  It wasn’t a new gadget,  or something avant garde; it was a simple $20 mask. That along with her laughter, for a brief moment was something that could make us all remember there are still some great simple joys to be had in this world.

Ms. Payne, thank you for that reminder.
