Ever since the news broke that a film adaptation of one of Ubisoft’s hottest franchises was being made, gamers & film lovers everywhere have had their moments of both excitement and trepidation. Movies based on video games have, historically, not had the best success (*cough* Street Fighter: The Movie *cough*).
However, this may not be the case with Assassin’s Creed (due out in US theaters on 12/21/2016). With Ubisoft (the game developer responsible for the Assassin’s Creed franchise) having retained much of the film’s creative control, this thing actually looks like it could be good! Between the costume reveal back in August, and what we see in the the trailer, the action sequences are really well done, the settings really make for an immersive experience, and the shadowy specter of Abstergo feels like a truly clandestine & frightening organization. Michael Fassbender & co-star Marion Cotillard are also said to to have had some great chemistry during filming, so here’s hoping that the studio can pull this one off well.
Check out some of the recently-leaked stills from the movie as well:
Having been a HUGE fan of the games, I’m pretty psyched for this movie. However, I’m still going to go in with as little expectation as I can. Don’t let me down, Fox!
