On Thursday, April 14, 2016, Fox co-chairman Stacey Snider stated at CinemaCon that Deadpool 2 “is in the works”. Its star Ryan Reynolds, writers Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick, and director Tim Miller have all signed on to return for the sequel.
No plot information is available, but as those of us who saw the post-credits scenes in the first film know, Cable will join the cast in the sequel. What kinds of shenanigans can we expect from the Merc With a Mouth when he encounters the time-travelling son of Cyclops & Madelyne Pryor?
Of course, after seeing how quickly the first movie smashed box office records, and a little spoiler information at the end of the movie, it was pretty much a given that a sequel was coming. That being said, the studio may also choose to capitalize on the hype by announcing a release date in the near future. 20th Century Fox did previously announce that they had reserved the dates of October 6, 2017 and January 12, 2018 for “untitled” Marvel films. Therefore, it’s a pretty good guess that Deadpool 2 will occupy one of those slots.
