1. What inspired you to become interested in cosplay?

I was inspired by my love of theater first and foremost, but most of all for the love of the characters that I wanted to bring to life via cosplay.

2. The costumes that you create are expertly crafted with a high attention to detail. Where did you learn to design such intricate clothing?

Most of what I know how to do is through the wonderful community that is available online. Through forums like TheRpf.com and other skilled individuals putting out tutorials, I’ve been able to learn techniques that I normally would have to go to school for! I’ve also been fortunate to take a few classes at local sewing/art schools.

3. Cosplay is a wonderful expression of art with a strong community. What do you enjoy most about gathering with your peers at various conventions and events?

Cosplay is a large community of people sharing similar interests. For me, one of my favorite things is the friendships that I’ve been able to develop that have absolutely changed my life. Without conventions, I wouldn’t have had that chance.

4. Gaming, comics and fantasy has made great strides in recent years in regards to how females are viewed and treated but there is still a long way to go towards equality. Have you ever experienced unequal treatment as a woman in the cosplay community and if so, how do you handle those situations?

I have experienced inequality (most due to judgmental behavior- that I’m a girl so I don’t know about X), but for me, I try to handle that behavior immediately. I address it, politely, but firmly. I try to stress gender neutrality in the treatment of others. Rather than a “girl geek” we’re all just geeks. 🙂

5. What are your personal favorite characters that you have cosplayed and what are you looking forward to creating?

I will always have a deep love for Poison Ivy. She was my first costume, and a costume I continue to portray in different ways. I’m really looking forward to the creation of the Sideshow Red Sonja statue costume!
