1. Who or what inspired you to cosplay?

I was inspired by an old classmate in middle school who suggested to my group of friends at that time to do a group Kuroshitsuji cosplay. I was Grell at that time and we ordered our costumes all together but somehow never managed to actually cosplay together. However since then I was introduced to cosplay and have been going pretty strongly since.

2. What do you do when you aren’t cosplaying?

Cosplay is my second identity. My first identity is your boring ol’ university student haha. I’m a neuroscience and animal physiology major (sounds cool but it’s not all that in actuality haha) and I do some graphic designing for school clubs. I intern at research labs sometimes and do some science stuff. Cosplay is my way of stress-relief so I do it whenever I have time.

3. What costumes have provided the biggest challenge and rewards so far and why?

Probably my Silent Hill nurse outfit because of the mask. It was difficult to breathe in during the shoot and the location was very hot so I felt very uncomfortable and even dizzy towards the end. However I was very happy with how the photos turned out.

4. What is the best advice you would give someone new to cosplaying?

Find your passion. It’s important to know what kind of style you like and know what kind of skills you wish to develop for cosplay and work from there. It’s ok to have limits so try expanding them a little every time you make something new. Staying dedicated and passionate for your character and your art is what keeps cosplay going.

5. What is one thing the cosplaying community can do better when it comes to dealing with each other?

People should stop shaming and bullying other cosplayers/photographers. There is no reason why we should engage in actions such as slut-shaming, picking on those with bought cosplays, downing newbie cosplayers, cellphone camera (upskirting) taken pics. People need to realize we’re all just having geeky fun and that’s that.
