Samsung introduces the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+
It seems so long ago when phones were getting smaller and smaller. Now they are getting bigger and bigger.
Samsung has unveiled 2 super-sized Galaxy phones ahead of Apple’s announcement in September. They are the Note 5 and S6 Edge+ both featuring 5.7-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED screens, metal bodies, and more.
One of the biggest changes is that the phones will have a wireless charging feature (with the pad sold separately) and the one thing that Android users touted over iPhone users is gone which is the replaceable battery. Also, there is no ability to add Micro SD cards. Some of the other features are listed below:
Galaxy Note 5
Camera- Selfie camera has been improved from 3.7 MP to 5MP. Video shot on the phone can be viewed on 4K TVs. This is also a HD Live Broadcast feature which will allow users to stream their videos via Youtube.
S-Pen – The Note 5 also sports a stylus which allows you to scribble notes even when the phone is locked. Also Samsung has made it easier for users to navigate with the pen as well.
Battery – As mentioned before, the battery is non-removable and also smaller with the 3000mAh replacing the 3220mAh that was found in the Note 4. No indication on what this means for battery life.
Colors, memory size and cost – In the US only black and gold will be available. All phones will come with either a 32GB or 64GB version. It will cost at least $250 dollars via Sprint or AT&T with a contract for the 32GB and at least $100 more for the 64GB. Without a contract, the cost is about $750 and up. No word at this time on pricing via other carriers.
The Galaxy Note 5 is set to release on August 21, 2015.
Galaxy S6 Edge+
Curved edges – The Galaxy S6 Edge+ curves on both edges which allows for better multitasking and shortcut access when the phone is facedown.
Camera – it’s essentially the same as the Note 5.
Battery – also carries a 3000mAh battery like the Note 5 but it’s an improvement on the Edge’s 2600mAh.
Colors, memory size and cost – In the US only black and white will be available. Apparently not only is there a 32GB and 64GB version but also a 128GB version as well. As with the Note 5, users will not be able to add memory to the phone. The 32GB will cost $300 on AT&T and $350 on Sprint via a contract. Without a contract expect to pay around $800+. No word at this time on pricing via other carriers.
The phones are expected to release on August 21, 2015 via AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular, and Verizon, but also from Samsung Experience Shops in Best Buy stores.
So what are your thoughts about some of the changes to these phones? Do you feel like some of the changes that are happening are making these phones less Android-like and more iPhone-like?
Also, what do you think Apple may have in store for their unveiling next month?
