Geek Eats: Add Some Geek to Your Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day weekend is upon us! To celebrate the first official weekend of the summer, many of us will be gathering with friends and family to enjoy food, frosty beverages, and the anticipation of a glorious summer. The holiday is also a day of remembrance, for the soldiers who gave their lives in the service of their country.

I can see no better way to honor these men and women, celebrate the holiday, AND stay true to our geeky selves than by inserting a little of our favorite soldier-turned leader of the Avengers: Captain America. Below is a collection of recipes that are Cap-themed and perfect to add a touch of geek to your Memorial Day. Cheers!

Captain America Ice Cream Sandwiches

Nerdy Nummies is always a first stop for me when looking for geek-themed recipes. I find Rosanna Pansino a little irritating at times, but her recipes are spot on.

You could also just make cookies.

Captain America – The Non-Alcoholic Version

patriotic layered drinkCute for the kids! Also reusable for the Fourth of July

Captain America – The Alcoholic Version

This seems super sweet to me, so you may not want many of these. You can find the other Avengers here.

Captain America’s Bacon Apple Pie

Yes, that sounds a bit weird, but the smoky saltiness of the bacon would cut through the sweetness of apple pie filling to give it a more complex flavor. Also, this recipe is straight from Marvel itself, so who am I to argue?

Cap’s Sloppy Joe Sliders

Here’s another American classic straight from Marvel’s website. As a note, Marvel has recipes for other characters too. There’s even Shawarma tacos! See the list here.

Captain America No-Bake Cheesecake

The last thing you want to do is sit inside with your oven when it’s nice outside. With this recipe, you won’t have to! The recipe uses bananas, raspberries, and blueberries, but there are tons of other options, depending on your tastes.
