It’s Always Raw …the day after. 5/12/15

Hey there PCU-maniacs

Time for another edition of my 5 thoughts from raw, this week dealing with the show that aired May11th 2015.

This column is going to be a hard one to write, knowing how long it’s supposed to be and with what I have to say I might have to write something that is a little longer than usual, so if I am brief with the first 4 thoughts I apologize, feel free to hit me up at twitter.com/BobTGolfish if you want me to elaborate more on any of them. Also I warn you that my thoughts on the biggest point I wish to talk about don’t exactly align with the larger wrestling community. With that said lets get onto the thoughts.

1) THE MEGA POWERS ARE BACK BABY! Well at least Axelmania and Macho Mandow are apparently a team now. I have this as one of my thoughts as we recently saw a solo promo from Damian Sandow where he was solidly backed by the crowd and the crowd seem to love this Axelmania gimmick too and they will go nuts when he wins a match. So why stick them both into a team when they both just got out of disappointing teams (Rybaxel and Mizdow). Not sure where this is going but I’m a fan of both guys. Lets ride out this “We have no idea what to do with these guys, make them a tag team” moment of booking.

2) THE WYATT FAMILY ARE BACK! Or at least Harper and Rowan are back together. This is a step in the right direction, WWE. Now just get them back with Bray. Please? They were so good together, SO GOOD. And without him, Harper and Rowan are just 2 big guys that can’t cut a promo worth a damn and can’t really get over solo. As a tag team they work better as Bray’s lackeys. You know it makes sense team. DO IT!

3)ADRIAN NEV…er… JUST NEVILLE: There is a very familiar chant among the WWE crowd one where they repeat the phrase “Same Old Sh*t!” over and over again, much like the person they are chanting at. So why is it that after about a month or so on the main roster I feel like that chant is exactly what Neville is giving us. You’ll hear me and a couple of other discuss this in this week’s Declassified; but when Adrian is on the offensive in a match, and he is not doing a huge high spot, he looks somewhat lost in the ring, and the spots he is doing are the same spots he’s been doing for a long time. The more he wrestles, the more he becomes Evan Bourne.

4) DOES THE WWE PLAN ANYTHING EVER? Last night it was revealed that May 31st the WWE will air a WWE network exclusive event “ELIMINATION CHAMBER”. This is about 2 weeks notice (and is right between 2 PPVS). This leaves them 2 weeks to set up the angle for EC and then 2 weeks to set up the angles for Money in the Bank. This is also hot on the heels of 24 hours notice going into King of the Ring. You know WWE if you announced these things a couple months ahead of time you could build excitement. I know you are currently trying to put of this “We could do anything at anytime so subscribe” kinda thing…but it’s not working for ya.

5) THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM. Daniel Bryan. And here is where I’m going to go off the rails for a bit. Last night D-Bry relinquished the IC title. He also made it clear that he doesn’t know when he will return to action or if he ever will be able to. I have come at this in 2 ways looking at Bryan Danielson the Person and looking at Daniel Bryan the Wrestling character.

So lets start by looking at Bryan Danielson, the person.

I harbor no ill feelings toward him and it absolutely sucks that he is in the position and I feel bad for him and his fans. But at least a little bit of it is brought on by himself, the absolute refusal to change his style in any way after major neck surgery, when a lot of his moves impart major impact on the neck area. Also last night’s promo did NOTHING to help him. Coming out and basically for 10 minutes going “All the brass in WWE were going to bury me and you forced them to do otherwise” burns a lot of bridges, and sets a dangerous precedent if he DOES return because every time he loses a match we get the God awful situation that happened after the Royal Rumble this year where fans wanted to hold the WWE hostage rather than let them tell the story they wanted to tell. But again it sucks that Bryan is hurt in this fashion.

How to look at Daniel Bryan, the wrestling character.

DING DONG THE WITCH IS DEAD! And in this case the witch is the situation of mystery. I cannot lie, I’ve never been much of a Daniel Bryan fan. At all. I can see why people love him and his work, but I just haven’t ever been a fan of his (and I’m going to be honest when the whole trying to hold the WWE hostage over him not being in the main event thing happened, it colored my opinion of him even more) so I’m glad he is no longer the champion. Mainly because it gets the IC belt (my favorite title) out of this weird limbo it’s been living in ever since he won it. Between WWE not wanting to tell us he was hurt for the longest time, to them confirming he was hurt but not what it was, to not telling us what was going on with the IC belt… it’s been nothing but a circus. Also I’ll be very surprised if He ever holds a major championship in the WWE again. This is the second title he’s had to surrender due to injury and the second time he has had to head out for an undetermined amount of time in less than a year. H e also wasn’t back in action more than 4-5 months and for at least one of those he was working hurt already.

I hope that Bryan gets well and takes care of himself and his family. As for the wrestling world, the last time he got hurt, the WWE fell back on Dolph Ziggler. Lets hope they do so again. Or at least I’m going to hope that.

So there you have it PCU-Manics. I told you that my opinion on D-Bry wasn’t that of most people, in that I’m not a fan, and in some ways I’m kinda glad that he is gone so that other people can shine and the IC belt is not in limbo but I wish Bryan the best of health and would wish injury on no-one.

The Top 3 stars of the show

1) John Cena

2) J&J (I love their role as the new Stooges and they deserve a shoutout)

3) Neville

Anyway, please leave your thoughts and comments below, on our facebook or twitter, or tweet me @BobTGoldfish to discuss your thoughts. Until next week

See you in the Squared Circle
