It’s Always Raw the Day After…5/4/15
Good Day PCU-Maniacs
WELCOME to my 5 thoughts from Monday night raw for the show that aired May 4th 2015.
3 things first off before we get into the actual thoughts. 1) Sorry for no column last week life was super hectic and the time I would have taken to be able to write the column was taken up with my interview with Robert Shearman which you can listen to on PopCuluteuncovered.com now. 2) Massive props to the Montreal Crowd last night. Holy hell you guys were on fire and it just showed how an amazing crowd can effect a show. And 3) I’m going to try and avoid making all 5 thoughts “SAMI F’N ZAYN” but I can’t promise anything ok?
So onto my thoughts.
1) I loved the use of the New Day this week. And was very pleasantly surprised when it was them interrupting the opening promo and not the authority. Long story short I think that not only is the gimmick working much better as a heel gimmick, but I think Big E and Xavier work better as heels and it really seems to be something that Kofi has wanted to try and all three of them are reveling in it, more power to them, love it.
2) I’ve been pointing out for weeks that Payback is basically the 1 year anniversary of the Dissolution of the Shield. Now with the addition of Dean Ambrose to the main event, I’m finding myself hoping that they find a way to write Randy Orton out of it. Sorry guys I’m not one to hide the fact that I loved the Shield, I think they did a great job. And I kinda hoped they would do something with the three of them and holy crap what a match that was it was completely inZay… errrm..Insane. Possibly the best televised (non PPV) match they WWE have put on this year. Rollins and Ambrose put on a great performance, and their match on Smackdown was amazing too. After a lackluster match at the PPV Ambrose needed a shot in the arm and holy crap he got it.
3) Dear God that R-Truth /Stardust match was horrible…okay.. WWE we need to talk. You listening? Yeah…ok.. HIS NAME IS CODY RHODES. Get rid of this stardust gimmick, it’s horrible and you are wasting someone who could easily be in the mix of the IC or even world title pictures if you did it right. Oh yeah…so it involves you guys booking something right, which means it probably will not happen. Seriously there should have been a big payoff Vs Goldust at ‘mania for the name, but instead we got a pointless divas tag match. Side note: it’s interesting that I’m perfectly okay with calling Dustin “Goldust”. But I think it’s because basically that gimmick WORKED. Stardust always felt forced.
4) SAMI F’N ZAYN! I marked out so hard. No foolin’. The fact that Sami hurt his shoulder pump the crowd up and still wrestled that match is amazing, silly for hurting himself to pump a crowd that was already losing their minds, but what ya gonna do that has to be an amazing experience for Sami, in his “hometown” being introduced and put over by Bret Hart? Amazing for him. Also massive props to Cena, he worked that match as a heel and sold possibly more than he ever has in any of the other US open challenges (what’s that Wade? you just did this awesome swinging suplex thing? Nope STF. Deal with it. Seriously I sometime wonder if Cena could sell water in a desert.). A good match and debut for Sami, lets hope this is the start of something for him. I was never kidding myself that he would win. Not only the Rusev rematch looming but Sami’s match with Kevin Owens is fast approaching too. Still awesome to see one of my favorites getting a call up it would seem.
5) Am I supposed to honestly care about the Naomi/Tamina thing? I mean seriously is Tamina not sick of being Second fiddle to another Diva? She did it with AJ now she is doing it for Naomi. COME ON with the family thing, the Bellas are ACTUALLY RELATED BY BLOOD, you guys are marriage cousins… Cousin in laws? Whatever, THAT DOES NOT MAKE A STRONGER BOND. In fact it make s not stronger a bond than Tamika had with AJ, and she was about ready to decapitate the black widow when she got hurt. Screw that. This is DUMB.
Anyway on to the wrap up!
Ben’s Top Three Stars of the Show
1) Sami Zayn
2) Dean Ambrose
3) Seth Rollins
This was such a good Raw. Promos kept shorts and sweet focus on action IN The ring, and a crowd that was white hot. The crowd showed some fatigue in the main event, but that is to be expected with everything that happened, they must have been getting tired. The WWE has a talented roster. They showed that tonight with the exception of the a single stinker of a match.
Anyway, please leave your thoughts and comments below, on our Bacebook or Twitter, or tweet me @BobTGoldfish to discuss your thoughts. Until next week
See you in the Squared Circle
