It’s Always Raw…the day after – April 20, 2015
Greetings PCU-maniacs!
Time for another trip into my brain for 5 thoughts from the Monday Night Raw that was held on April 20th 2015.
This week Albany, New York is our home and Triple H is BACK. We’ll talk about him in a couple of points from tonight. I’m not sure how I feel about the show this week. The last couple of weeks I have really enjoyed the show, but this week even though the Kane/Randy/Rollins stuff still played out well the show just felt…off to me…not sure what it was. Aaaaaaanyway.
1) I think the Ambrose/Harper match really helped with the feel of “Why?” when it came to Raw. It was the opening match and it very much continued the feeling between these 2 that they are a step out of synch. This should be a classic smaller guy against bigger guy feud, Ambrose against Harper should have been a great fight, but it like watching 2 really drunk guys trying to slow dance; they are stepping on each other and mistiming moves and it’s just not connecting for me.
2) The Through-line skits were great again, from Rollins backstage fear, to the Kane/J&J stuff even to Triple H saying, “Seth it’s one guy”. Hey Trips, this is the same guy who obliterated your family at one point, and kissed your wife while you were handcuffed to a turnbuckle. (yes he had Legacy with him but lets be honest, J&J are better than they were then.) I will however say that after Orton RKO’d the first people, then people backstage should have been living in a little bit of fear… which would have made things a bit more interesting. Note: I really hope with making Kane the “Gate Keeper” (does that make Katie Vick the Key-master and yes I know those genders are wrong, that is the joke) this whole whim and Rollins thing is not a work to get Randy to be in a false sense of security or whatever.
3) WWE confirmed the return of Tough Enough. Not sure how I feel about this; I mean I’m excited but I won’t know exactly how I feel after the details of the format/prize come out. Is the winner going to get put into NXT or on the main roster? And if it is latter, how are the people in NXT going to feel about it. Hell what about the Diva search they announced with people like Blue Pants (yeah I’m a fan) or even Sasha/Bayley etc how do they feel about this? It’s going to be interesting to see how this stuff works.
4) So this week’s challenger for the John Cena open challenge was Kane. And for the first time we got a match that was not that enjoyable. Maybe it’s because it’s a match we’ve seen so much over the years or because they are trying to make Kane out to be a little out of step or what ever but it was another misfire along the lines of the earlier Ambrose/Harper misfire. After the match Cena gets blindsided and put in the accolade with chain assistance. For someone with so much experience Cena still gets ambushed a lot.
5) The Closing match of the night had Seth Rollins and Dolph Ziggler in it, so you know I am going to be a happy man. I have said that they have been 2 of the top 3 in ring performers in the WWE for the last year, and any time you give these guys a decent amount of time you are going to get a good match out of them. However their paths going forward are very different. One is headed off to headline a PPV the other is going into a “Kiss My Arse” match that he is fated to lose against a returning heel that the WWE are trying to form into a monster. I’m so sorry Dolph…
BONUS SIXTH THOUGHT! The whole Miz / Mizdow Feud has been handled horribly, this should have had the payoff at Mania; the Miz brand thing being done here on Raw just feels underwhelming, especially since we know Miz is leaving here soon to film another movie with Paige (which is why she was written off TV like she was). Mizdow deserves better. Perhaps this means he can go back to being Sandow and hopefully still be mega over.
Welp with a bonus thought I’ll keep the conclusion brief, so let’s get on with it…
Ben’s Top Three Stars of the Show
1) Seth Rollins
2) Dolph Ziggler
3) Randy Orton
Overall a RAW that felt a little off kilter, and with Extreme Rules coming up and Daniel Bryan’s health in question, things are up in the air quite a bit so lets see where things settle next week.
Anyway, please leave your thoughts and comments below, on our facebook or twitter, or tweet me @BobTGoldfish to discuss your thoughts. Until next week
See you in the Squared Circle
