It’s Raw…the Day After

Hey there PCU-maniacs

It’s the Tuesday after Wrestlemania and I have been asked by the PTB to bring this here. On my personal facebook for the past few months when ever I have time, I like to put together a few thoughts that spring to mind for me when I’m watching WWE Monday Night Raw. This might not be a weekly column as it comes to me having the time to write it on a Tuesday (and sometimes I’m not watching Raw live.)

The Raw after Wrestlemania is often the best crowd of the year, even moreso than Wrestlemania because you can hear them a bit better because you aren’t in a stadium and they get so raucous. But as such, the WWE fanbase is still reeling with some of the big changes that have come out of the biggest night of the year.

Side note before we begin. I love the Hall of Fame, and I loved the Bushwhackers. I was watching a recap of the ceremony this morning and as I said as much as I love Luke and Butch and they totally deserve the honor, the fact that the Bushwhackers are in the Hall of Fame and The Fabulous Freebirds aren’t, makes me die a bit inside. Come on WWE get the ‘birds in the hall.

So let’s move on to my 5 thoughts for Monday Night Raw on March 30th 2015

1) I know I have complained about Part time champions and the like before, but somehow Brock got around that. And how he got around it? 2 words: Paul Heyman. And just like he has been for the last year and a half, Paul E was on FIRE last night. Raw starts with promos pretty much every week and every week they feel like they drag on just too long. This week? Felt just right. Brock coming out with his gear on set the tone and it all went uphill from there. Also Steph just gets better and better as a heel. Then with the Seth swerve and subsequent death of Michael Cole and a camera man the Suspension… I was like “Oh.. *@#! She just declared war on Lesnar!” I want to see more of this (and you KNOW that the crowd is going to go insane when Brock finally get hold of Seth.) and that is always a good thing

2) A lot of people are freaking out over the fact that the US title is now on John Cena and the IC belt is on Daniel Bryan, saying that it’s not fair that arguably the top 2 faces in the company right now hold mid-card belts. Me on the other hand I too am freaking out. But not because it’s not fair but as we saw last night, it’s going to allow those belts to have more of a focus put upon them. Something that I have wished for, for so long and holy hell, can we make the Ziggler/Bryan feud more of a thing. Please? PLEASE? Bryan, Ziggler and Rollins have, in my opinion, been the top 3 workers in the WWE since C.M. Punk left.

3) When Brock upended the table and basically destroyed the entire commentary crew. 2 things sprung to mind: First why was the table still upended like 30 minutes later? Why not just fix it? And second I love Byron Saxton’s work but they needed to send him support out there sooner, and they should have sent someone other than Lawler. Corey Graves was in the arena in the pre show, so was Otunga. Get Regal out there, hell even Renee Young as they are all worthy to support him.

4) More NXT callups. The Lucha Dragons and the man now known as Neville. If you are not doing so and you are a wrestling fan, you should really be checking out NXT, the “developmental” area for the WWE. (aka the best wrestling coming out of the company for the last year or so). There is some phenomenal action going on down there. I am however worried for Neville, he is solely reliant on his aerial ability, he doesn’t have much of a mic presence. Anyone remember Evan Bourne? Exactly.

5) John Cena’s opponent in his open challenge. I, like most everyone else, was expecting Rusev to come out (who instead got to squash Goldust) but instead out came Dean Ambrose. I’m a fan of Ambrose but I kinda hated this. Not only had we seen Dean get powerbombed from the ring to the floor outside, but from the ring to the floor through a ladder, less than 24 hours earlier (so much for selling injuries, huh?) But Dean had been making such a huge issue of the IC belt for the last 2 months or so, that for him suddenly to go back after a title that he barely defended when he held it as part of The Shield just confused me. Then for Rusev to not even bat an eye in the direction of a rematch…just smelt…off to me..

Welp there ya have it… My 5 thoughts on the post Wrestlemania edition of Raw. I just want to make a little statement of I really wish they would stop relegating the tag titles to the preshow especially at WM, as a celebration of wrestling every title deserves to be defended there.

Anyway, please leave your thoughts and comments below, on our facebook or twitter, or tweet me @BobTGoldfish to discuss your thoughts.

Until the next time I put thoughts to words.

See you in the Squared Circle.

Ben Taylor.
